Send one email to let us know which group you'd like to join. That's all it takes.
We'll send you the virtual meeting details and upcoming session dates.
Listen, share, or simply be present. There's no pressure, only support.
You don't need an account or a referral to use anything on this page. Whether you want a trained peer at your hospital, a professional who understands burns, or help paying for treatment, start here.
SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) is the Phoenix Society's peer support training. SOAR-trained survivors visit patients in burn units, sometimes while you're still admitted.
In Canada, in-hospital SOAR programs run in Calgary and Toronto. If you're somewhere else, you can still be matched with a SOAR-trained peer virtually, which is how most of our support happens.
Ask your burn unit's social worker or nurse whether they have a SOAR program, and reach out to us either way.
See burn units across Canada →Our own network of survivors and caregivers, trained to walk alongside someone at any stage of recovery. Many have completed the Phoenix Society's SOAR training, and some are healthcare professionals, including therapists and social workers.
Most of this happens virtually, so where you live doesn't limit who you can be matched with. Tell us a little about your situation and we'll find someone whose experience is close to yours.
Search the directory →Provincial burn funds and firefighter societies help with things insurance often won't: travel to a burn centre, pressure garments, accommodation for family, and camp fees for children.
Each has its own criteria, so it's worth asking even if you think you might not qualify.
Find funds & camps →You don't have to have this figured out. Most people reach us months or years after their injury, and that's normal.
Ask your care team about a burn unit social worker, and about occupational therapy for scars and range of motion. Those two people will shape your recovery more than almost anyone.
Peer support isn't crisis care. If you're struggling with your safety, please reach out now:

Burn units and burn societies host their own groups, in person and online. These are run by them, not by CBSC. Check with the host before you go, as times can change.
Each of them has been where you are, or has walked beside someone who has. Everyone listed here has chosen to share their story publicly. If someone isn't on call right now, you can still reach out and we'll pass it on.

Sessions run in our own private Support Room, right in your browser, with nothing to download. Protections are built in so you can share, or just listen, without worry. Everyone agrees to keep what’s shared confidential.
A peer supporter reviews every request before granting access, and everyone signs in under their own verified name. No anonymous guests.
Keep your camera off and stay muted if that’s more comfortable. You’ll still show on the room list, so the group always knows who is present.
Live group chat sits beside the video, and you can reach a facilitator any time. Sessions are never recorded.
Your privacy matters to us. We collect only what we need to run the groups and stay in touch, and only contact you the way you’ve agreed to. Email and text reminders are sent solely for peer support; we never sell or share your information. Standard message & data rates may apply to texts, and you can reply STOP to end texts or HELP for help at any time. We handle your information in line with Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). To update or delete your details, or withdraw consent, email peersupport@canadianburnsurvivors.ca.
